A new plan to promote Ceylon tea

June 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Plantation, in advice of its Minister D.M. Jayaratna, is planning a programme to promote Ceylon tea internationally.

The Ministry officials are now preparing a report on the strategies and the expenses of tea promotion in Russia, Poland, Japan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the last five years. Plans for tea promotion will be prepared according to that report. The Ministry will launch the programme initially in those countries.

Sri Lanka exported 314 million kilograms of tea in 2006. They included 54 million kilos exported to Russia, 38 million kilos to UAE, 28 million kilos to Syria, 25 million kilos to Iran, 16 million kilos to Turkey and 10 million kilos to Japan.
